The Chimbulak ski resort is an incredibly beautiful place in the gorge of Zailiskiy Alatau. The resort is located twenty six kilometers from the city of Alma-Ata, at the altitude of nearly two and a half kilometers above sea level. Year round the environment is quite pleasant for an active holiday: in the summer period air the air temperature reaches +20 degrees Celsius, and in the winter it falls to -5-7 degrees; the number of sunny days in a year reaches ninety percent; at distances there is a very pleasant thickness of a snow layer - one and a half meters. Descents are provided by a system of cableways and the free towing lift. Since 2003 admirers of extreme descent have had an opportunity to rise by the height of three kilometers to the Talgarsky pass, the difference in height is nearly a kilometer.
The main feature of this resort is a variety of routes for every taste: soft slopes, for beginners, for thrill-seekers, special routes for mogul (a discipline of freestyle skiing) and a great number of others. It is also worth noting that every year new routes are created at Chimbulak, for this reason many citizens and guests of the southern capital seek to conquer new peaks every year. All routes of the ski resort are certified by FIS (the International Federation of Mountain Skiing).
The Chimbulak ski resort offers visitors with a variety of options for services: from restaurants and hotels to an alpine ski school. So if you can't ski, you should not worry - highly qualified specialists work here, who are able to teach in just a day everything that is necessary so that you can enjoy an active holiday to the fullest extent. Also on the territory of the resort there is a children's town and a set of interesting programs for children.
At the ski resort all conditions for achievement of a wide range of sports disciplines have been created: skis, snowboard, snowblade (a kind of short skis). Throughout the whole season (since the beginning of November until the end of May) various competitions of different levels and prestige are held on the territory of Chimbulak.
The resort is open 24 hours a day without any days off. The only thing: cableways are open from ten o'clock in the morning until five in the evening, so you can use them only in this period of time. Particular attention must be given to the fact that during the summer the resort does not work on Tuesday because it is the "prevention day".
